  • The Kobe steak was the finest steak I’ve ever had in my entire life!
    I was traveling with my husband to Dubai for business, and we stayed at the Fairmont Dubai. As per our usual travel arrangement, we have one blow-out luxury meal per trip. The Exchange Grill was our luxury meal, and it was unforgettable. The Exchange Grill was not your average hotel restaurant. It’s not huge, it’s open, but there is an intimacy to each table. I really liked the décor, the pop artwork is bold, and makes the space come alive. It is not noisy, like a lot of other crowded Dubai hotel Grill restaurants. Even though there were four other occupied tables, we were treated so personally and attentively. This is also not a cheap meal. One comes here to celebrate great food, to not be rushed, to savor the excellent service, to enjoy the whole scope of fine meal courses, and to appreciate a super quality meal with (hopefully) great company! The service was excellent (Hari served us), personalized, attentive but not overbearing, informative, but not pushy. The meal was paced perfectly, which was great considering the quality of food I had, it was nice to have a few moments between courses and not be rushed. There are a good variety of other meal choices, including seafood and poultry. The cocktails were excellent. Hari rolled over the specialty Gin trolley, and while it was a thing of beauty, I went with my standard, Old Fashioned. Appetizers we chose were the beef tartar and crab cakes. Indulgent, but also fun, beautiful and delicious. Between courses, we were given an amuse-bouche that looked beautiful, with wild mushrooms under a foam bed, and on top was a warm fried airy dough with an ice-cold butternut squash sorbet inside – it was amazing, and so refreshing and tasty!! For my main, I went for it! I pushed the boat out, and ordered the 10 oz Kobe Beef Fillet with the marbling score of 9. In a ‘Grill’ restaurant, meat quality and customer preference is key when it comes to the ‘best steak’, advising on the right cuts to suit our taste, and cooking to our preference is imperative, and with my Kobe steak, both front- and back-of-house certainly achieved this with honours! The meat was super top quality; the silky flavour, melt-in-mouth tenderness, taste and juiciness was amazing! The steak was simply seasoned, with salt and pepper – and was sufficiently perfect like that. But if you want... they roll out a whole trolley of uniquely seasoned butters, salts, mustards and sauces you can add to your table. It’s hard not to choose one or more, I did, and so had a dollop of a mushroom & black truffle butter added on top of my Kobe Fillet which melted down onto my steak. Back to the steak: it was a large looking 10 oz Fillet, so flavoursome, as tender as butter – in the end I just wolfed it down with no added seasonings, it was perfect. Even after the cocktails, the generous sized amuse-bouche, and the appetizers, I could not put down my fork on that steak. The Kobe steak I had at the Exchange Grill was the finest steak I’ve ever had in my entire life. I live in beef country, Canada, and have sampled the finest quality, aged, grain fed beef from all over the world, and I can honestly say that the Kobe fillet steak I had at the Exchange Grill was the finest steak I’ve ever had in my entire life. (Yes I am repeating myself.) Kobe beef is not cheap anywhere, but it was exquisite. I highly recommend the Australian AA9 Kobe Beef 10 oz Fillet (approx $595 AED, about $200 CAD). I’ve certainly paid more for a main dish that was nowhere near as exquisite! (In fact, on this same trip I paid $80 for a gourmet burger at another Dubai hotel/resort, which was horrible and inedible.) Push out the boat, and enjoy one of these Kobe Beef fillets, if not the best steak you will ever have. We also were given a very theatrical dessert, that opened up when it melted, really pretty, but, by that time I was so full, I had to struggle to eat that too! : ) I cannot fault one thing - everything was top quality, choice, and personalized service. Compliments to the Chef! In all our meal for two with drinks was around $1400 AED ($400 USD/$500 CAD) – I’d would do it again! I hope to return to Dubai so I can!

    We visited on Christmas Eve and it will be an evening remembered. For the quietness of the place, the kindness and professionalism of the staff, but above all for the best Châteaubriand we ever had the pleasure to share. Not cheap especially when it comes to wines. On the other hand the quality and the perfect cooking of the meat were worth the visit.
